Price and depth moved in opposite directions for four days, and only one of them had an API

Between 19 and 22 August 2026, non-Bitcoin assets added roughly $215 billion in nominal market value. Aave rose over 60%. Zcash around 75%. Price feeds tracked every tick of it. Order books did not move.

An agent reading that feed sees an asset that has appreciated and is therefore, by its model, tradeable at size. The book says otherwise. Depth did not scale with price — in several monitored pools it contracted while the quoted number went up, because the same rotation that lifted price pulled inventory out of the book.

The two series disagreed for four days

Nothing in a standard agent stack surfaces that divergence. A price feed and a depth series are different measurements of different things, and only one of them has an API most builders have ever integrated. So the disagreement ran for four days and only one side of it was being read.

This is not an oracle failure. An oracle's job is to report a reference price and it did that job correctly throughout. The failure is the assumption stacked on top: that reference price and executable price are the same number. They are the same number only when the book is deep relative to the size being moved — which is most of the time, which is why the assumption survives, and which is why it fails exactly when it is most expensive.

Why this is the founding observation

Crifine's continuous depth recording began on 22 August 2026, inside this window. That timing is the whole asset. Price history can be reconstructed from swap events by anyone at any time; resting liquidity at a given moment cannot be. It is a state you either sampled or did not, and a competitor starting later has to wait for the next rotation to build a comparable stress record.

The market-cap and per-asset figures above are the project's own framing of the rotation and still need dated third-party sources — they are listed as outstanding in the whitepaper's references. The depth contraction in monitored pools is Crifine's own recorded series and is publishable as primary evidence. Holding our own claims to the standard we hold everyone else's is not optional here.
